Biun&wick, sends the following : —
1. If A backs a dab to win a football instch
with li. and it a draw occurs, does A lose the

difference in respect to a bet or draw. 2. If

during the afternoon, and he wine fire, the

stakes?
A>"9Webs.— 1. Unless the words " to abso
lutely win " are mentioned the bet is drawn.
2. This depends on the nature of the wager.
If six separate etraiefat-out beta are made, A
wins five, and the eixthis drawn.
K.G., Richmond, says B gave me 2 goals
in, and backed South Melbourne against Fort
Melbourne. They made a draw of the match.
Do! win the wager?
Answer.— Of conrsejroa win.
A XiOVzk of Jumping writes I beg to ask
yoor opinion in the following case. I agree to
jnmp another man s running hop, step and
jump. There are no rules adhered to or
mentioned. I cover the greatest dietaoee, but
my opponent objects, asl do net hop, step, but
simply hop twice on the one foot and do not
move front one to the other. I bold that it is
fair, as it is done bv alt the champion jumpers
of England and America. Hie event is simply
styled Hop, Step aud Jump; but in jumping
contests a man is scarcely ever se-n tohop.
stop, but he giveti two hops and a jtunn, as I
have before stated. Strange to say, 1)9 out of
100 first-class jumpers will adhere to the-two
hop, while only one may chose the hop, Ftcp.
Another reascn why 1 hold that it is fnir is
this : No doubt The Sportsman admits that
the greatest distance ever done in a running
hop, step and tump is 51 feet 1 inch. I con-
aider this to be the proof of my statements ns I
was an eye witueKs as well as a fallow com
petitor at that record done by P. Shanahan.
and I can swear that it was i» two hops ani
a jump that this standard was reached, nud
not, as some preplc think it to be, hop,
step and jump. Again, why I wiy it
is fair is that it is allowed by all
record comQittteec, the present holder of
the world's record being the saino athlete as I
Jiave before mfntioned. If you inquire of any
sporting journalin England or America. -what
is -the world' fcecord tor. .e nning -bop Apd.

think this almost solves tuy problem, but my
friends here do nut think so; therefore, we all
ask for your decisiou as tu what is just and
what is allowed only, or are two hops allowed
under any Australian ru>.
Answer.— Our opinion is, that if the match
is made fur a hnp, step aud juu.p, tliosn 'con
ditions must to adhered to, aud two h"ps
would not be admusihl->. In all such cases the
conditions should he clearly net our, and a
strict adherence insisted on.
