AUSTRALIAN RULES IN SYDNEY.
CARLON V. TASMANIA.
The firet of a series of exhibition matches
was played on the Association ground on
Saturday under the auspices of the local As
sociation. Unfortunately the day was cold.
wet and , miserable. The attendance wax
moderate, but though latterly tb game

play. When kicked off into Tacmanisn
territory, the ball was well returned to the
centre, where a free kick was given to Sibley,
who sent to Wells close to Carlcon goal, ena

ment. Carlton now were on their mettle, and
after fine play from Hutchinson to Williams
they were nearly scoring, but a behind only
resulted. Again in a fee' minutes Hutchin
son marked to Keane, but the

the Bine had a chance, but Ross again
missed, making fonr behinds in quick time.
Now Tasmania made a rally, and a behind re
sulted. Then Carlton showed how well' they
could plav together, and by brilliant marking
had the others in trouble ; but after a bard
struggle tney were forced to defend tbrir own
citadel. Keane went to the rracue, and after
a fine run no sent it to the crowd, where Wil
liams got the ball, and pasting in to Baiters
the Carlton made a splendid k'ck, and
scored first goal for Carlton Tasmania
forced matters for a while, and tbrmgh Indivi
dual players worked well, the play was uneven,
and tney failed to score. Tankard and Adkin-
aon were conspicuous by their first-rate play.

Next term Tasmania fought desperately,
but were against too much odds. Ryan, how
ever, showed brilliAtit plav. He triad Jong
run, and dodging cleverly, got clow in and
dropped the best goal for Tasmania. Gadjon,
however, added four more— Curne 2. and Salt
and Strickland 1 each. The final result being
— Carlton, ff guals 14 bdiinds ; Tosmanis, 2
