YHILE working an engine at Bethun-
gra, Mr J. Ross, an engine driver,
was severely scalded about both feet by
escaping steam. He was admitted to
Junee Hospital.
The Forbes Municipal Council, at a
special meeting, further advanced its
scheme for the improvement of North
Circle Park and the construction of up-
to-date swimming baths within the area.
It has been decided to change the name
of file -park to .the. King George V. Me
morial' Park. Altogether the sum of
£18,000 is to be spent on baths and the
beautification of the park.
Richard Lipscombe, 56, of Ellis Street,
Chatswood, while crossing the Pacific
Highway to post bills on a hoarding, was
fatally injured by a motor car. His skull
was fractured and he received other in
juries. The . Central District Ambulance
took him to the Royal North Shore Hos
pital, but he died before he could be
admitted.
While he was felling timber at Mount
David, a tree fell without warning, strik
ing George Roberts, 60, on the head.
Roberts suffered a fractured skull and
was admitted to hospital in a serious
condition.
Plans for the proposed ocean amuse
ment jetty and wharf at Kirra Point,
Miles Street, Coolangatta, are now be
fore the Coolangatta Council. The jetty
will be 1500 feet in length, and is esti
mated to cost between £30,000 and
£40,000.
A dispute on board the steamer Allara
at Newcastle resulted in the dismissal
of 24 members of the crew. The rest of
the crew then left the vesseL
Leslie Picken, of Pennys Ltd. (Brisbane),
a company which controls chain stores
in the northern towns of New South
Wales, explained at the Chain Stores In
quiry that the firm's name was decided
upon because Penny was a word always
in the public mind.
Negotiations between Australian Nat
ional Airways and British Pacific Trust,
as predominant shareholders in Airlines
of Australia, have ended. The cost of
obtaining control of the latter organisa-

Zobel, who was a returned soldier, had

The Forbes Progress Association has
decided to take up with a Brisbane firm
of bridge builders the proposed construc
tion of a bridge over the waters of Wal-
lis Lake, to connect the townships of
Forster and Tuncurry. It is contended
that there are immense possibilities of
having the structure built on a toll basis,
because the fees received, with a fran
chise granted over a period of years,
would 'be so large as to amply compen
sate the builders for the amount of ex
penditure and maintenance involved.
James D. Price, 29, of Darley Street,
Darlinghurst, was electrocuted in a
quarry at the works of H. M. Murray
Construction Co. Ltd., Rozelle. He was
found on the floor of the quarry grasp
ing an electric light standard.
Mr C. R. Allen has been selected,
without opposition, as the State Labor
candidate for the Eden-Monaro seat in
the next Federal elections. Mr Allen
was formerly a railway employe, and is
engaged in farming on the South Coast.
Arthur Boyd, 18, whose parents are
employed at Gunning Bar Station, while
swimming in the Macquarie River at
Warren, dived into shallow water and
struck his head on the sandy bottom.
He subsequently died in hospital from
a broken neck.
After a strenuous fight, the Casino
fire brigade saved the farmhouse, dairv.
fodder-shed, and piggery at Whittaker's
farm, on the Kyogle Road, Casino,
where 300 acres of grass, trees, and fenc
ing were burnt.
Mr Robert James Cullen. 80, who died
at Kyogle after a long illness, was one
of the pioneer settlers of the district.
He was the first secretary to the pro-
visional directorate of the Kyogle Co-
operative Butter Factory.
_ The death has occurred of Mr Thomas
Currey, of Wamba, Pilliga.aged
63. Born at Bathurst, Mr Currey spent
file greater portion of his life in the
Coonamble, Coonabarabran and Pilliea
districts.
