Drop of 5/9 a ton in New South
Wales coal is expected by the Pre
mier.
Joy riding in motor-cars is preva-
lent in south Australia, ana curing
the past six months 300 cars have
been stolen. The police have traced
all but three of them.
A girl who saved Reginald Hull,
15, from drowning at Semaphore on
December 28 disappeared among the
crowd after helping him to shore.
She was Thelma Johnson, 17. She
has come forward In answer to a
plea by the boy's mother. She thinks
her bQl-ve act was "nothing, really."
The hydroplane Imp, valued at
£1250, capsized when turning in the
river at Port Adelaide on Sunday

Bartholomew, who has entered for
the Bennett cup, to be raced on the

Six small boys called at the city
watchhouse, Adelaide, on January
11, with a large quantity of rifle gun
ammunition and several brass percus
sion caps, which they had found in a
dump on a vacant allotment in Flin
ders-street. A brother of Mr. William
McDonald, who leased the shed, stated
that the ammunition had been bought
several years ago, and his brother
still used it for shooting kangaroos on
his station near Mannahlll.
For unemployment relief, sickness,
maternity grants, winter clothing, and
payments to dependents of . deceased
soldiers, the South Australian Soldiers'
Fund distributed more than -£36,200
last year. Unemployment relief ab
sorbed £9500. and- assistance to fami
lies of sick soldiers £9400. Of the
£460,000 given by the South Austra
lian public in war-time to the fund,
