Rochester have hail two seasons,
I and on each occasion have playfed in
the grand final. Last year they were
minor premiers, hut were beaten by
Sandhurst in the deciding game.
Pyrenees Season
The Pyrenees District Football As-
sociation held its final meeting last
week. Delegates were present from
H 'Amphitheatre, Avoca, 331m liurst, and
Lexton clubs. Mr. E. T. Brown, pre-
sident, congratulated the clubs on the
successful season. The financial posi-
tion was good.
Lexton club (premiers) received
I £30/4/8, Avoca £11/11/2, Eltnshurst
B £8/18/0, Amphitheatre £6/6/9. An
honorarium of £ 5/5/ was voted to the
secretary, Mr. J. M. Carey, who was
highly commended for his splendid
work throughout the season. The As
sociation paid a large sum for um
pires, and the above-mentioned sums
were available after paying all ex
penses.
Portland's Success
On Saturday last the curtain was
lowered on the South-Western District
Association games, when Portland
(minor premiers) defeated Rovers, on
the Hey wood ground. The weather
was ideal, and a record gate (over
£40) was the result. Two special
trains, from Branxholmc and Port
land, brought large contingents, and
there were many present from other
parts of the district. The game was
a hard, gruelling struggle from start
to finish, with Portland having a lit
tle the better of the play all through.
The only absentees were MTntyre,
from Rovers, and Symington, fro in
the Seasiders.
Maryborough Final
The curtain lias been finally lowered
on football in the Maryborough district
for the 1924 season. On Saturday the
grand final of the Association competi-
tion was played between Moolort and
Dunollyf the former club exercising its
right of challenge by virtue or having
won the minor premiership. The match,
played under ideal weather conditions!
attracted a record crowd for the sea
son, but the football iu the first half
did not approach the standard of tha
two previous matches, the first of
which ended in a draw, the second be
ing won by Dtmolly by a goal. The
play appeared to lack spirit, and, from
a spectator's point of view, was unin
teresting. In the second half, how
ever, there was an improvement, but
principally on the part of the Moolort
men, who, after overhauling Dunolly's
lead of 3 — 4, took the lead and gradu
ally increased it until the final bell.
Duri oily were expected to fight stren
uously in the last quarter, hut they
failed to repeat their performance in
the final match, while Moolort clearly
demonstrated their supremacy and won
by 10 — 11 to 6 — 12. For the winners.
Bob Anna nd played a splendid game
in the ruck. The captain (Charlie
NicliolLs), in transferring himself from
the centre to the half-forward line,
made a wise move, for he figured in
the majority of the attacks and scored
several goals. His three brothers —
Alex, Roy and Percy — also played well,
Percy, who stopped up this year from
the Carisbrook Jnuiors, being a, con
spicuous figure in the centre. Powell
and Bob Dock, Mapson, M'Donuld, G.
Nichols, Tangoy and Tonkin were
others prominent. Dunolly had two
outstanding performers in Ned Kick

tionally clean and clever game in tlie
centre, while Kick was an active figure
in all parts of the ground, his marking
and kicking leaving nothing to be de
sired. Smith played a good game on
the wing, where his pace stood him in
good stead. Others of note were Brown,
Alters, W. Taylor, Grigg and Gloury.
The game was capably umpired by
M'Murray, of the Melbourne League.
The Junior and Senior Associations
have appointed delegates to confer with
the League club. The idea of the con
ference is to formulate a scheme where
by football in the future will be con-
ducted under more harmonious circum
stances than was the case this year. It
is contended that with the three bodies
working together much good can be ac
complished.
