DIjuIk'oIh Open Well
Dimboola w«w first away, and
ihowing gjvn i. -I. ; sh. attacked strong-
! ly for' the first ten minutes. Tiiey
I had several ehanoes to score, but lack
of direction spoiled the shots. Law-
| «ra had a ch.-inee early, but kicked
I out. Waits eknabeal, on the other
hand, were smarter in getting rid of
! the hall, but in the air the teams were
well matched. "Warracknabeal, from
three scoring shots, gained three goals
to Dimboola's 1.4.
The second term found Dimboola
playing better in attack. The play
Swung from end to end. Maroney
(Warracknabeal), who had left the
field in. the first quarter with an in
jured ankle, ca me on again. A couple
of minors to Diinboola, followed by a
goal by Lawson, brought the scores
Jofel, 18 points each. "Warrackna
beal by vigorous play drove it down,
but the fine defence of Dalitz saved
the situation for Dimboola. Half-
time scores were Warracknabeal 5.2,
Dimboola 3.8.
Strenuous Third Quarter
The third quarter was strenuous.
fkriy In the term Warracknabeal,
playing with perfect system, broke
through with a goal. Dimboola, fight
ing every inch of the way, gained a
point. A goal was their reward soon
aftre. Warracknabeal 's lead was re
duced to five points. Newton (Dim
boola.) was "brought down heavily, and
after a few moments he was allowed
his kick. He was in a dazed condi
tion and lrad to be carried off. Dim
boola, renewing the attack, scored the
full points, giving them a point lead.
Warracknabeal, with a counter at
tack, goaled, and were again on top
by five points.
For the rest of the term honors
were even. Each in turn got the lead,
but in the end Warracknabeal held
it by sis points. The scores at the
final Change were Warracknabeal 8.5,
Dimboola 6.13. A feature of the play
in this term was the grand high-mark
ing of Ca.ust and S. Fry (Warrackna
beal) and Nuske and Kelm <3jim-
boola).
Faulty Kicking Decides Issue
Dimboola were busy , in the opening
moments of the last quarter. They
soon levelled tbe scores. -Lawson
scoring a goal, Warracknabeal, in a
sortie, gained a goal. A point to
"nimKnnlu rnrinnhil Final 'c
lead to five points. D'imboola were
attacking strongly, but wild kicking
brought them behinds only.
Warrackbabeal" gained another goal
and Dimboola were 10 points down;
hut a nice angle goal by Hassett re
duced this to four points, with only
about five minutes to go. As already
mentioned, t)hnboola, in the last min
ute; had a cliance to snatch a victory,
but Marks's shot went behind.
Warracknabeal won their third
premiership in seven years. In that
period they have been runners-up
three times, and once beaten in the
semi-final — a fine record.
There was a scene of wild excite
ment at the finish, the crowd cheer
ing both teams. Although beaten,
Dimboola played a great game. Their
only weakness was on the forward
line. Hard knocks were given and
taken on both sides in- the best of
spirit, nnd it is to the credit of both
teams that they controlled themselves
well. Wickham umpired splendidly.
Best players on the winning side
were A. Causts and S. Fry, the best
pair on the ground; C. Parsons, Muir,
Cooper, Tosh. Couzner, J. Fry and.
Gilliga.n. For Dimboola Nuske, Kelm,
Kuhl, Gillc-tt, Hams, L. Schneider,
Dalitz, Lawson and Mansfield were
prominent.
Lawson kicked three goals for Dim
boola, making his total 93. M. Bren-
nan got two for Warracknabeal. His
tally for tbe season is S5. Hunt
(Stawell) kicked 92.
Dimboola have lodged a protest on
the ground that Eckhardt (Warrack
nabeal) was ineligible to play in the
"Wimmera League.
Delegate Honored
During the half-time Interval Mr
L. Welch, who for son\e years was the
Murtoa delegate, was presented with
a framed enlargement of the Wim-,
mera League delegates. The presi
dent of the League, Mr C. Frencbam,
in handing it over, made reference to
the valuable work done by Mr Welch
during his years on the League. Mr
Welch, in responding, said he greatly
appreciated the gift, and would
treasure the picture as a reminder
of the pleasant times they had had
together. He had done his best to ad
vance football in the Wimmera.
