MARYBOROUGH COMPETITIONS
CONCLUDING AWARDS.
Maryborough, Monday.
The musical and elocutionary compe-
titions concluded on Saturday with a
grand concert given by the successful
competitors. The seating accom[?]-
tion; at the Town Mali Was .tested to
its utmost capacity, and many were
unable to gain admittance. In the
course of a short address the president
(Mr J. P. Richards) said that from
three standpoints^The competitions- had
been a great success. Firstly, in
knowledge gained both. by child _ and
adult, which was .an education
secondly, that the ad
judicators, (Mr -.W. L. •. Paine, of South
Yarra, and Mr Haydn West, of Bal
larat) had l>een helpful rather than con
demnatory ; and thirdly, that from an
entertainment point of view the compe
titions had reached a high standard.
Awards announced late on Saturday
were:—
