CLUNES.
SUCCESSFUL BALL.
The balance-sheet of the recent plain
and fancy dress [?]all, held at Chines in
aid of the local hospital, is very credit
able to the secretary (Mr W. J. Arnel),
chairman (Mr H. R. Heathershaw), and
members of tlie ladies’ and gentlemen
committees. The total receipts were
£:il) Is Bd, aud the expenditure £lO 15s,
which left a credit balance to be handed
to tlie hospital committee.
USE OF PEA RIFLES
At the Talbot Shire Council on Mon
day. a letter was received from the Fern
Tree Gully Shire Council, which stated
that the majority of councils recommend
ed restricting the use of pea rifles to
those 21 years old aud over. Council
lors wore strongly against tho proposal,
and stated that it was ridiculous. Some
were in favor of making the age limit
IS vears. Eventually it was decided to
opposy any restriction, an amendment to
make the age limit IS years being de
feated.
BOUNDARY WORK.
Tlie Ballatat Shire wrote to tile Talbot
Shire asking co-operation .n doing some
work on the bouudary road at ToureHo,
between Campbell’s and M’Hugh’s, and
this communication was dealt with on
Monday. Mr J. Campbell attended on
behalf of the residents, and asked tlilat
1 lie work he carried out, as the road was
in a very bad state. One councillor
stated that this was only one of ,the 150
places in the shire requiring attention,
and it would take all thiß year’s revenue
to repair the damage done by the recent
flood. It was Anally derided to take the
matter into serious consideration when
finances permit. It was also agreed
that the engineer and members for the
riding -liould inspect the spot, aud see
if anything could be douc to assist the
residents in the locality.
