CITY MAYOR'S REPORT.
The following mayoral report will he
submitted to the City Council on Mon
day evening:—
King Edward Memorial Pavilion. —
On _ the 22nd December,. 1911, the^

The presentation was made, on behalf;
of the councillors- and others, who
were;' desirous of recording : their • apl

in which the ex-mayor- and Mrs Holl
wav fulfilled their respective duties.
Christmas’’and New Year' Holidays.
—Though the weather was hardly-
Christmas •* -weather in the Australian
sense of- the ternf—being comparatively
cool and showery—there. Were ' large
gatherings,- at t-ho , Botanical Gardens
and, other places of public resort on
the. public holidays of the season. The.
old year was-seen out:-and the New
Year in. with the usual exhibition of
festivity, the ringing of -the chimes,
and the -gathering of the populace in
.the main-streets. Our City is famous
for/the. splendid - properties • which, ore
available to the citizens, at all hours,
in the street gardens. Lake Wea
donroe, the Botanical Gardens, and. the
various reoreation reserves. It is
gratifying, m view of the accessibility
of theco places, to be able to-report
the . council’s curators note that no
damage whatever-was/done to the. pub
lic .utilities during their.usage by tho
general public during the holiday sea
son. The reasonable and right enjoy
ment of the open - air recreations
provided for: the public here is at onco
creditable, to the, popple, themselves,
and an expression of "publid appreci
ation of. the. policy of
this council with regard ,to all places
ofpopular- resort and. pastime. The
orderly and 11 reasonable use of ’’■avail-''
results in a maxi-,
ojuni of pleasure 'for the public generr
: ally •• and speaks at - once -of admirable
•public spirit and of-' rational ind'-
vsdual conduct. I think we may con
gratulate the CSty .and tl;o citizens on

perous seasons.
