Cr, McPhee Asks
Questions Over West
Sawmill
REPORTING on Mr. W. J. Enticott’s
application for the registration of his
factory in West Dandenong, Inspector
H. L. Williams stated:
“This is a well constructed- factory
and suitable for. the purposes for which
it was erected. At the time of its
erection Bulong St. was not in a re
sidential area. I recommend, there
fore, that you approve this request.”
“Didn’t our Medical Officer report
to this council that it was a nuisance?,”
enquired Cr. McPhee. He added that
j he had been told that originally it had
| been erected under instructions from
the W. 0.1. Now that this organisation
had ceased to exist, he understood that
the owner was asking council for per
mission to carry it on.
I The secretary explained that the
factory was placed there before that
locality was declared a residential
area. He was very doubtful if they
could refuse approval if the factory
was up to standard in other respects.
If it was creating a nuisance, then
sphere were other methods of control.
. Cr. McPhee: What steps are we tak
ing to back up our M.OJEL’s report
that he considered it was creating a
nuisance?
The secretary: I think we would
first have to bring in a by-law. We
may be able to deal with it under the
Health Act if complaints result in
evidence being produced that it is,
creating a nuisance.
On the motion of Crs. Williams and
Podmore the Inspector’s recommenda
tion that approval be given, was
adopted.
The secretary said he had had com
plaints about the buzzer and 'had
written to Mr. Enticott asking him to
abate the noise.
