Melbourne, Tuesday.
Word lias been received in Melbourne
(hat both Gerald Patterson and J. O.
Anderson, will be available jor the Aus
tralian tennis team which is being sont
to endeavor to bring the Davis Cup to
Australia from America this year. This
announcement has been, received by
Victorian tennis enthusiasts with great
interest. It had long been recognised
that Anderson and Patterson are to-day
a good deal ahead of any other Aus
tralian players. The committee of the
Australian Lawn Tennis Association
meets in Sydney tomorrow,- when it is
expected that arrangements for sending
the Davis Cup team from Australia will
be made.
It is understood that, the team will
leave, Australia almost immediately.
There is no doubt thut? both being nt
and well at the time the challenge
match (should Australia, reach that
stage) against the American representa
tives would be fought out by Patterson
and Anderson, both in doubles and
singles. Nevertheless, in- order to guard
•gainst ill-health or accident, it will h*
necessary to send either three or tour
players. This being is expected i
that P O’Hara Wood and J. B.
liawkes will be invited to loin,J he team.
