LAND FOR SOLDIERS.
DIVERGENT VALUATIONS.
A PURCHASE DELAYED.

Different valuations of land intended
for soldier settlement have led to a dead
lock in regard to the Amphitheatre es
tate. Cr R. W. Laidlaw, the owner, of-
fered 735 acres io Privates G. Harris and
T. Morton at: .-£4/10/ per acre, and mem
bers of the local Repatriation Committee
valued the property at «£5. After con
siderable delay an official from -the Re
patriation Department made an inspec
tion and valued the land at about L'3
15 1, consequently no business was trans
acted. The local committee contends that
the official has under-estimated the value
and feels annoyed at its calculations being
upset. 'Die soldiens are keenly disap
pointed. having, waited eight mouths in
the hope of befits settled on Cr Laidlaw’s
estate. Last year the land carried more
than 1100 sheep and'lambs.
