A BRAVE BROTHER.
Tries to Save . His Sister.
.. . The: coroner at Nertlrwich (England)
recently -heard -a -pathetic story o£ a bro
thdr.'s heroism during an. enquiry which
he -held -into- the deaths' of Tom Tom
lrhsrin, .a. young laborer, and Ada Tomlin
son, a - domestic servant, * who lived -in
Veswicks-road,"1 Hcuthwic.h. They were
brother and sister,' and they died together
in-tragic r circumstances.
Adar it was stated, was employed dur
ing the day at "Green Peak, near North-,
wieh. ' She reached home about eight
eight o'clock on Sunday night and went to
bed." . -Her "mother, who took her a cap
of; tea' and - some biscuits, was informed
by. .a -younger- daughter-later, that she had
seen"Ada"-ott the, river bank about twenty
yards -away--pulling off her rain
coat. . -Suspecting that something
was- wrong, she ran to the river,
followed immediately by-her son Tom, who
was-having his supper, and who *ran out
partly dressed. A steep slope separated
fhe-house-.from the-water, and it was seen
thatiAda;.warin. midrstream. Her brother,
an expert swimmer, leaped into the water
and supported her. '

Meanwhile,- William Brooks pushed-out
tw-o planks and shouted, "I will get a
boat.' Tom answered, "Be quick!-.
Though several men- put out with a hoati
they found that brother and sister had
~In answer to the coroner, Ada's sweet
heart said he had promised to meet her,
but did -nok-call up. until 11 o'clock, when
be' .heard "of. .her tragic, death.
- In -summing up,-the Coroner described
Tom -as'a heroic'.and gallant young fellow.
His death was accidental. ' " .....
As to the poor girl, he thought it pro
bable that she had been greatly disap
pointed at her lover not turning up, had I
gone down to. the river bank, presumably
to .wait for him, and had been driven to
desperation in her prolonged disappoint
ment, In her case "Suicide while tem
porarily insane" was the verdict.
