QUEENSLAND POLITICS
The Fhi!p Mission.
;_ Brisbane, October 8.
»ir Aitrca uo.viey has issued the follow
ing replies to the questions of the Premier
(Mr. Theobald) in regard to the Philo
mission to England and the financial ques
tion:—
' The reason that we took no notice of it
waff, that we entered into no newspaper
correspondence at all. The newspapers
■were continually asking us to make state
ments, tut we refused to do so to any
paper because we had to deal with a deli
cate matter, and we declined to disclose
any information' whatever.
' 2. On several occasions we met the coun
cil of the British-Australian Society, oE,
which:the gentlemen named.were members, j
and we discussed the question of'pastoral |
leases and the Brisbane tramways with]
them, but the discussion was confined to
these two questions exclusively, they be
ing connected with pastoral ana other in
dustries in" Queensland.
3. If those gentlemen named were mem
bers of the above council we would have
met them, but we did not meet them in
any other capacity.
4. No member of the delegation ever at
tempted to meet Sir Robert Nivison. • it
way suggested by one gentleman that we
should do so. This we flatly declined,
earing if Sir Robert Nivison wished to see
us on any matter affecting Queensland he
should call upon us.
