CONDITIONS MORE SATIS
FACTORY.
LONDON, June 3.
The condition of the money market is J
still a subject of discussion in business
and political circles, but the fact that;
the Stock Exchange closed yesterday 'with
a more cheerful aspect is regarded as
satisfactory. The position with regard
to Canadian Paciiic Railway stocks im
proved, and business was active at the
close, when the bears, who had been ope
rating, rushed to cover. Messrs. Hes
sian & Button, stock jobbers, were "ham
mered" at the Exchange, but their lia
bilities are not serious.
The "Pall Mall Gazette"'" states that
the situation in respect to the money
market is distinctly unpleasant, owing to
heavy forced liquidations in certain direc
tions and credits being curtailed. The
Victorian loan is on . a different fqoting
from the rest as to the terms of redemp
tion.
The "Globe" says the Victorian opera
tion really aims at reducing the debt,
and the "Westminster Gazette" states
that the fact that a million is being with
held, makes the Victorian loan less for
midable than it seems at first sight.
