Religious Painting Cut.

buried at the National liallcry to-day, and
w.jfc found within the railings. J
An attempt was made to-day to set fire j
io St. Anne's Church at Eastbourne. Sus-j
sex. to-day. but fortunately the dames'
were extinguished before any damage wns,
done. A valuable painting, depicting a re- j
ligious subject, was however, injured by I
the scratching on it ot the words, "Votes
for women."
Owing to the attempt made yesterday to
kill or injure Mr. Henry Curtis Bennett,
one of the magistrates at the Bow-street
Police Court, yesterday, by means of an
"infernal machine," sent through the post,
and addressed to liim, that gentleman, has
since been specially guarded by detectives,
set apart for that purpose.
Pour militant suffragettes, who, yester
day, attempted to address a meeting at
lliirrovr-on-'lMirness yesterday, were very
roughly handled hy the women who gather-j
cd near the place of meeting.
A bomb of a highly-explosive character,
was discovered to-day in the cellars beneath
the ehapcl in the park attached to Dal
keith Palace, the residence of the Duke of
Buccleuch, at Dalkeith, near Edinburgh.
