MR. BALFOUR'S CRITICISM.
LONDON, December 13.
Mr. Balfour, the leader of the Opposition,
speaking at Hartford yesterday, said the
threat of the Radical majority to carry the
Parliament Bill, and thereby settle the mat
ter of a single Chamber Parliament, was
a boast which was not going to end the
matter. The Unionists would not submit
to such a preposterous scheme, hastily
cooked, and thrown at the heads of the two
Houses.
Referring to the Home Rule project, Mr.
Balfour contended that the Liberals -had
avoided reference to the subject until 510
seats had been fought. It was an outrage
on democracy that the Government had
announced only on Thursday their inten
tion to proceed immediately with the Home
Rule Bill. This, Mr. Balfour concluded,
was a plot to prevent the country pro
nouncing judgment on the proposal.
