WOMEN
Adverse Amendment'
LONDON. Dec. 10 (A.A.P-)-
When the committee debate on the
National Service Bill was resumed in
the House of Commons, Mr. J. Rhys
Davles (Lab.) moved an amendment
to delete conscription of women. He
said Britain.- was the first civilised
country to' propose that women should
be- conscripted., wncre tne
failed- to compel women he could not
see how we could hope to succeed.
Mrs; G. Hardle (Lab.) seconded the
amendment. She , did not object to
women doing necessary war work, but
rnck and camp: life were unsuitable
for -them. -

While we' are going : to force young |
women into the services there are
thousands of young men at White
hall -who are deliberately dodging the
column.-
Mr. Bevln, Minister of Labor, said
the amendment .would wreck the
bill;/ '
