MAIN ROADS COM-
MISSION.
The Main Roads Commission met on
Tuesday, when the Commissioner of Crown
Lands occupied the chair.
Messrs. J. E. Rowell (chairman) and J.
E. Marles (clerk of the West Torrens Dis-
trict Council) appeared with the following
request:—"That the portion of the Tapley's
Hill and Port Adelaide-road from the in-
tersection of such road with the Military
road in section 185. northwards through
sections 186 and 187 and others to the nor-
thern side of the bridge over the River Tor-
rens in section 433, near Fulham, be placed
on the schedule." It was stated that the
road in question was the main thorough-
fare from places like Cape Jervis, Rapid
Bay, Yankalilla, Myponga, Willunga, Noar-
lunga, Morphett Vale, Reynella, Tapley's
Hill, and Brighton. It would be a great
convenience to the producers in the hills.
The Caurnamont District Council pre-
sented the following requests:—That the
following roads be placed on the schedule:—
(a) The road commencing at the Murray
River by section 74, and Block J (Bolt's
Landing), hundred of Forster, thence on
between sections 70 and 78 and block 3e
and 2 to the hundred of Bandon; length 12
miles. (b) The road from Caurnamont,
in the hundred of Ridley, to the new ferry
at Purnong landing, hundred of Forster. (c)
The road leading out from Chucka Bend
Landing, at section la. in the hundred of
Bowhill to the south-eastern boundary of
Bowhill and Vincent by section 30, hun-
dred of Bowhill; length about 15 miles.
Mr. Christopher Bolt, farmer, said there
had been more than 100,000 acres taken up
in the hundred of Bandon, and it was im-
possible for the producers to get their com-
modities to market unless they had roads.
The Hon. A. von Doussa—Are there any
farmers in Bandon now?—Oh, yes.
William Marshall Stephens, Engineer for
Roads and Bridges, said there were few
roads that he could recommend to be taken
off the schedule, because of the tremendous
amount of traffic on them now compared
with a few years ago.
