RAIN IN THE MALLEE.
The reports received by the Railway De
partment up to Saturday last show that
the rains in parts of the mallee district
have been considerable. At Lake Charm
five hours’ steady rain had fallen, and
this, it is seriously stated, is a particular
ly good tiling, because it will lay the dust
for the season. For some months past
the dust has been blowing in the neighbor
hood worse than anywhere -else on the rail
ways, and delays of trains have been fre
quent owing to the line in the neighbor
hood being covered to a depth of several
inches. The best of the other records re
ceived by the department were:—Berri
willoek, 208; Nullawill, 151; Korong Vale,
135; Sea Lake, 120; Wycheproof, 117; and
800-nt, 105.
