by Messrs. A. H. Jarvis and J. Darling.
Way won the toss and Rankine and Mitchell
were the first to put in an appearance, while
Heddle and Pullen commenced the attack.
The bowling for a while was very
good, only 11 runs being scored off
five overs. The total stood at 25, when
Mitchell, who had been risking too much on
the off, gave Pnllin a chance in the slips off
Heddle, which was accepted. Ashton joined
Rankine, but Heddle's off theory proved too
much for him, a3 he skied the first ball he re
ceived, and Bird effected an easy catch at
coverpoint. L Way was the next in. Richards
showed very nice form, bis leg hitting being
hard and clean. Scores at noon :—
