GRAND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
The Grand industrial Exhibition arranged
for by the Chamber of Manufactures was
opened at the Exhibition Building on Thurs
day May 22 It was a most unrortunate cir
cumstance that the inauguration of this mo3-„
laudable enterprise on the part of the chamber
should have been marred owing to tho unpro
pitious attitude assumed towards it by the
elements. Weather, proverbially, is a re
spector of nothing, not even exhibitions ; bu-.
one could have whhed that Jupiter Plums
had not taken it into his head to frown
upon the opening of a show ;""'lA
not only of more than passing .i^rest,
but the success or failure of £mch„
determine whether or not it will bo rep »
when another year has passed away. -
attendance was wry moderate d
day and in the evening, but it i= he> be hoped
that with the advent or line weather it wiU
«reatly improve. The large and van >d display

curiously bv those who were present,
«1P noiieetions of machinery outside,
