HYPOTHERMIA
I expect anytime now our good
weather will crack up, winter
will set in, good and proper.
Host winters we have the usual
troubles, people getting lost,
or getting cold while on their
bush walking and hunting
excursions in the highlands.
The Central Plateau is well
known for its changeable weather
conditions, but to the unwary it
is a death trap.
Hypothermia has claimed many
lives in the highlands, hunters
can and do get into a lot of
trouble in the area, I suppose
most of it comes through
inexperience, they get carried
away, with the excitement of
chasing kangaroos etc, they get
separated from their mates, and
if a fog descends, which it can
in a few minutes, it is possible
to lose your way, this is where
a compass is a handy thing to
have in your pocket, matches in
a waterproof container, and
weatherproof clothing, and
remember, if you are lost, find
some kind of shelter, light a
fire if you can, and stay in the
one place, your rescuers will
know the general direction you
are in, and you will be found.
You might spend a very
unpleasant night but you will
live to tell your grandchildren
about the close call you had in
the Tasmanian Highlands.
So, please, beware of the
danger! Be prepared for adverse
weather conditions. When you
pack your lunch, put plenty of
paper around it, it is very
handy for lighting a fire later.
I know some people who carry a
small bottle of diesel for this
purpose. So please beware of the
Danger!
Check the weather forecast, you
can get this by phone 11541.
If you are a shooter, please
stop shooting the signs on the
way or on the way home, I think
this is a childish act, and
costs us all money, and that
includes YOU! It is disgusting
to see all the signs that are
shot to pieces.
IRISH HUMOUR
Have you heard about the
Irishman who invented a new type
of parachute?
It opens on impact!

TASMANIAN TIGER
I was talking to a person I know
very well, sometime ago and he
informed me that he had sighted
a Tasmanian Tiger at Lake Echo.
It was early one morning when he
was out after a rabbit with his
rifle when he saw this thing
loping past some cattle, 'That's
not a calf', he though to
himself, he then had a look
through his telescopic sights.
It wasn't a calf, and it wasn't
a stag, he is sure of that, he
thinks it was the real thing. I
asked him had he been on the
'Grog' , but no his mind was
quite clear, the Question is -
Was it a Tiger? Was it going
back to its lair after a night's
hunting? It was heading for some
bush.
I also know of another person
who claims to have sighted one in
the headlights of his car at
Arthurs Lakes, then there is the
fellow on the far North West
Coast who has sighted several of
them, but definitely will not
tell anyone where they are. We
all know about the tracks found
out Hole Creek way, the latest
news is the 'Dung' of one (could
be more , eh ! ) discovered out
Mathinna way or in that area
somewhere. There are more
reports of sighting at
Scottsdale and on the Sidling.
I think it is all a load of
'Bunkum' ... if there is that many
about, they would have to have a
mother and father and that is
gointo to make quite a few tigers
running around, and can someone
tell me why they wouldn't be
killing sheep and young lambs
like they used to years ago.
Sorry, fellows! They are now
extinct!
(That's my opinion anyway!)

A well known gang of workers
arrived at the Great Lake area
one morning to start work. To
their dismay on opening the tool
box, they discovered there were
no shovels. A call was put
though to the Boss, at the
Depot.
The Boss said 'I'll have them
there soon after lunch. In the
meantime lean on each other!'
