POLICE COURT—PORT ADELAIDE.
iVIONDAT, SEPTEMBER 3U.

Samuel Whiteside, laborer, was charged with
assaulting Frauds Drew, master mariner, on the
23rd September, at Port Adelaide. Defendant
pleaded guilty, but said he was drunk at the
time. Francis Drew stated that last Monday
morning he was at the flagstaff steps talking to
a boatman, when defendant came up and said,
" Here's that Paddy Drew; I'll fight him." He
hit witness in the face and knocked the pipe
out of his mouth. Ho was not sober. "Witness
was mobbed the night Mr. Stone arrived from
Melbourne, but defendant was not with the
