THE TEMPERANCE HALL.
(From Our Correspondent.)
A special meeting of the local Temper
ance Hall committee was held on Monday
evening last, to consider the matter-of
lighting the hall. The president, Mr TV.-
D: Sara, occupied the chair. A motion
on notice by Mr John Baird, that the hall
be in future lighted with acetylene gas,
was carried without' any . adverse com
ment, and the president and Messrs John
Baird and J.'H.' S. Reid, were appointed
a sub-committee -to make 'arrangements
for. the installation as soon as possible. ’

makingleffortß to have, the large reading
room, comfortably .fitted -up for the winter.
On account of the increased number of
young men’ in the tovpiship-rin ■ conse
quence of ; tiie. new chaffanillandother

room'will now;, be .a. sourceof pleasure to
many. 'One hundred new books—the se
lection -including many-, of the -best au
thors—have recently'been purchased, mak
ing a.total for the year, of. 150 new books.
The Temperance. Hall ‘committee is to- be
asked t.o remove the book cases into the
reading-room, - so that- the other 'rooms
can.be used for draughts, chess, etc.; and
there is no doubt the’'committee will see
its. way . to-do this, v .' - ‘ :
