Secret Marriage
of Lord Mayor
The Lord Mayor (Sir Raymond Connelly)
was secretly married late yesterday 'afternoon
to Miss Patricia Holschier, to whom he became
engaged on April 8.

mony at St. Mary's Church;
Howard-street, North Mel

The bride, who now becomes
Lady Connelly,, was given
away by her father, Mr, G." A.
Holschier, a well-known River-
ina grazier, from Womboota.
Dr. S. H. Marron, a Mel
bourne dentist, was best man;
while Mrs. R. Meares, sister
of the bride acted as matron
of honor.
After the wedding a recep-
tion at cne nome oi j-ir. iviar-
ron, Wando-grove, . East St.
Kilda, was attended by 60
guests,
The greatest" secrecy sur
rounded the wedding. .- -Only
member of the Town Hall staff
aware of. the - event was the
Town Clerk (Mr. H. S. Woot-
ton).
Although the Lord- Mayor
was In his office yesterday
morning, he cancelled his
afternoon engagements and
asked the Immediate past Lord
Mayor (Sir Thomas Nettlefold)
to deputise for him at a meet
ing of the Municipal Traffic
Advisory committee.
Even the Lord Mayor's pri
vate secretary (Mr. Bear) did
not know that Sir R. Connelly
was being married. He thought
he had only taken the after
noon to attend to private busi
ness.
Interest was -first, aroused
late in. the afternoon when. Mr.
Wootton was seen wearing a
bowler hat, leaving the Town
Hall with his wife. Normally
Mr. Wootton wears a fur felt
hat. . . " / /
Dr. Marron was surprised
when , he heard- that news of
the wedding 'had; ."leaked

"Sir R. Connelly: does not
want any- publicity, at all,"
said Dr. Marron. ' /' ' .
Dr. Marron. then admitted
that the- marriage was ar
ranged when he accompanied
Sir R. Connelly and Dr. F. X.
Mulcahy to Sydney at Easter.
Later, Dr. Marron an
nounced officially that Sir R.
Connelly had been married at
o.ju p.m. -
Sir; Raymond ana Lady Con
nelly will leave for England on
June 1 when the Lord Mayor
will seek permission from the
International Olympic Council
to hold the 1956'' Olympic
Games In Melbourne.
Lady Connelly is unlikely to
undertake the duties of Lady
Mayoress.
