Performing Rights
Payments
CANBERRA, Wednesday. — The Aus
tralian Broadcasting Commission paid
£36,723 for performing rights during
the last financial year. The Postmas
ter-General (Senatoi Ashley), In the
Senate to-day, said of that amount
£32,811. was paid to the Australian
Performing Rights Association. Other
payments were £3902, being mainly
for the use of plays by various,
authors In England. The commission
also paid £12,440 to gramophone com
panies last financial year for the use
of records.
Senator Ashley said the matter of
control of performing , rights was an
involved one, and concerned the laws
of copyright. The Government would
review the question of amending the
existing legislation in the light of any
recommendation which might be made
by the Parliamentary standing com
mittee on broadcasting.
