WAR PRISONERS IN
JAPANESE HANDS
Use in Industry
LONDON, Oct. 23' (A.A.P.).
The Berlin Radio quoted a Japan
ese War Ministry announcement that
, war. prisoners in Japanese.-.hands will
be/used in important industries; The
prisoners will be paid under l-egula-
tioris concerning the payment for war
prisoners.
They will be sent to factories en
gaged in the production of transport
and electrical equipment, after an
examination regarding their skill.
U.S. Aiirmen Captured
WASHINGTON. Oct. 23 (A.A.P.).
The Secretary of War , (Mr. Stim
son) stated that four American air
men, whose names closely corre
sponded with ;those broadcast from
Tokio, as those of airmen captured
after the raid! on Tokio last April,
were actually among the list of those
missing as' a result of storms encoun
tered after the raid was completed.
Mr. Stimson said relatively few air
men were missing after the raid.
Some may have been forced down by
lack of petrol in Japanese controlled
territory. One plane had been interned
in Russia, and several others were in
volved: in ;fq?ced landings, in China,
but' very few- of , these planes were
missing; ,' :
"We abide by: the .Geneva conven
tion governing the conduct of war,"
he added, "and expect our- enemies to
do the same. We are very loath to
believe that Japan is going to violate
those rules."
