Railway Leave
Persistent efforts by railway
employes' representatives to se
cure Cabinet action on the two
major proposals of long-service
leave and appointment of addi
tional permanent staff from the
present large" number of supernu
meraries are likely to have an
early effect in one direction at
least.
It was stated by the Pre
mier (Mr. Dunstan) after Cabi
net met yesterday that a bill
was being prepared for long-ser
vice leave, but a final draft would
not be possible .until additional'
information was available. The
position of former railway em
ployes temporarily in other de
partments, and of certain em
ployes at the State Coal mine Is
still being discussed. Railway
employes' representatives were
unable to see the Premier before
he left for the country yester
day, but a further attempt will
be made to clear up outstanding
details with him to-morrow.
