ome Story of
British Attack
LONDON, Sept. 14 (A.A.P.) .
According to a Rome communique,
after prolonged air attacks by lqrge
formations, the British last night at
tempted to land paratroops at Tobruk
under cover by naval units. An Ita-
said, frustrated the attack.
The communique also said that Brit
ish war. ships attempted to land troops
simultaneously, with the support of
six cruisers and destroyers. Two Brit
ish-: war -ships were; hit and set on
fire, arid one of them sank later.
It was further claimed that German

Another'Rom'e assertion, said to be
official, is that British torpedo planes
on the night of September 9 sank the
hospital ship Arno, 8024 tons, 40 miles
from Tobruk, where it was going to
embark wounded. It was alleged that
the ship's Identification markings were
fully illuminated. The major part pf.
the crew, Including Red Cross nurses,'
was saved. ; A later report . said : four
sailors and 23 nurses lost their lives.
To-day's Cairo communique said
that on Saturday night patrol acti
vity continued in the desert. Enemy
positions and working parties in the
northern and central sectors were en
gaged -and harassed. ' Yesterday there
were artillery exchanges in the south
ern sector.
The communique added that there
were four minor air engagements
over the battle area yesterday, in
which our fighters damaged at least
six enemy aircraft.
