ST. KILDA'S NEW MEN
St. Hilda's coach; Hughle Thomas,
gave his charges at the Richmond
cricket ground last night sharp
sprinting and handball practice.
Ivan Porter, a former Prahran rover,
seemed above the ordinary, and
showed pace and cleverness in every
thing he did. Don Butler, a local
Junior and a useful player, more than
satisfied the selectors. The Burns
brothers (Gordon and Les), rover and
wing player from a district team,
shaped promisingly, while Stan Gun
ning, from the Navy, Impressed by
bis form; Roy Gracle, of the seconds,
should soon All a ruck vacancy. Don
Kerllc also did well. Jack Kelly and
Harold Butler showed good form
Players will train at the Ross Gregory
oval, St. Kllda, next Tuesday and
Thursday.

Frost, an all-round player, who has
made a high reputation In Tasmania.
Others are Max Dennis (R.A.A.F.), a
former Oaklelgh wing, and Wallace
Baker, an 18-year-old grandson of Jack
Baker, who was a Geelong champion
In the '90's. He Is 6 ft. 1 In. and
weighs 12 at. 3 lb. To date he has
played In school football. Another
promising newcomer Is Peter Mulhall
(recommended by Jim Cleary), who
has shown good form with Melbourne
High Old Boys.
Joe Kelly, the coach, had about 80
out at Albert ground for yesterday's
light training, Including a good mus
ter of old players. Laurie Nash,
former captain or South, who trans
ferred to Camberwell without a per
mit some years ago, had a run with
the pack. To promote enthusiasm
amongst followers in realising the
committee's aim to enrol 3000 mem
bers this season, the social committee
has donutecj a canteen of cutlery for
the most successful seller of tickets,
which are exoected to be received
from the printers next week.
