BUTTER FOR EXPORT.
S.A. EXHIBIT WIN3 SPECIAL PRIZE
Mr. F. J. Carroll, Commonwealth butter
expert, on Saturday awarded to Taylor
Bros.' Butter Faetory, Gawler,-S-A, the
special prize donated by. Messrs. W«idell
and Co. Ltd. fthrouch the eomnanv's.
Melbourne representative, Mr. J. ILKing) ,
for the best specimen of butter made up
for export. There were thirteen contest
ants, all . except the -winner being Vic
torians.
The butter was selected from merchants' '
floors -six weeks prior to the ahow, and
placed in cold storage. It was not specially
packed or prepared for show purposes.
The butter was 'taken out of rtoro four
days before the ahow opened. It was un
cased on- the -first day of the show, and
judged on Saturday. . The object of. -this
procedure was to eeenrc conditions similar
to those which obtain with butter placed
on the London market. The winner re
ceived 93 points out of 100; 434 points 'for
il-.vor, 30 for texture, and 19J " for finish-
Mr. Carroll expressed keen disappoint
ment that the Victorian exhibits com
pared very unfavorably with- the - soic -
South Australian specimen, which wu-
well pasteurised, wclT packed and showed
no crevices.
