Martial Law
Proclaimed
in Persia
TEHERAN, Mar. 20 (A.A.P.) .
Martial law for two
months has been officially
proclaimed in Persia. The
proclamation also imposes
a curfew.
Martial law was proclaimed
as a result of the assassination
of General Rasmara on March
7 and last week's wounding of
Dr. Abdul Sangenehn.
All postal, telephone and
telegraph workers in Teheran
went on, strike, today.

Stand on Oil
At the. same time the Per
sian Senate today unanim
ously approved the Maljl's
(Lower House) decision to
nationalise Persia's oil.
The Senate also approved
the Majli's proposal to with
draw large denomination notes
to meet the financial crisis
which has prevented Govern
ment departments paying their
employes.
A British Foreign Office
spokesman said that a meet
ing today in Teheran between
the British Ambassador (Sir
Francis Shepherd) and the
United States Assistant Secre-

ing kind.
He added that no reply had
been received from the Persian
Government to last week's Bri
tish Note on the agreement
with Persia over concessions
granted to the Anglo-Iranian
Oil Company.
The Saudi Arabian . Foreign
Minister (Emir Feisal) said
yesterday the nationalisation
of the Persian oil industry
would hot affect the future of
the Saudi Arabian oil fields in
the least.
