RUSSIANS-- COPYING U.S.
SUPFR-FORTRFSSES
"The Age" Special Correspondent in New York
Aircraft industrialists are alarmed by reports from
army intellicence staff officers that the Russians are
copying American planes which took refuge in Siberia
after the raids on Japan during the war.
It is alleged that the Russians
are building copies in factories
east of the Urals. While the
American pilots were well treated
by the Russians when they sought
refuge In. Siberia. It Is understood
' that few, If any; of them ever
flew out in the Super-Fortresses
that took them into Siberia.
The "New York Times", says.
"Wliile most of these planes were
too greatly damaged to permit
return flights, the pilots believe
that almost- everything in the
main construction of1 the plane
is in such a state .as to provide
Russian engineers with excellent
models."
There are two : schools of
thought about the efficacy of any
such copies. - While the pilots
think: that the Russians could
build Super-Fortresses to meet
any show of force in the air that
might be launched , against Rus
sia, aircraft engine men do not
believe that the . Russians would
bo able -to duplicate the compli
cated power plant of the Super-
Fortresses-
