LONDON, October 8.
The rAir -Ministry in a com
munique/announces that last
night- our bombers were over
southern- Germany in strength,
with -Stuttgart 'as their main ob
jective./ - Cloud prevented detailed
observation ':oi results.
Our.:/ bombers also attacked

craft attacked targets in north
west Germany and laid mines in
enemy, .waters: ,
Seven of our aircraft are miss

passing over London on their, way
to Germany Nazi raiders were
coming, in. to bomb the capital. ,
They encountered the heaviest
barrage yet put up. The search
lights 'first -picked out our own
/.bombers going, out and then
located - the raiders coming in -
from -the Thames estuary.
The -roar of our barrage and

the engines of our heavy bombers
gave the simpression that it was
a heavy raid, but, although 60
enemy aircraft crossed the coast,
only 15 managed to break through
to the London area. There they
Fanned out, keeping to the
suburbs, "> - " " '
Ssj.The " Air ! Ministry- ! announced
-that: -.Coastal Command Beau-
fighters, one of which is missing,
destroyed -two enemy aircraft over
the Bay of Biscay.
During Thursday . night's raid
Londoners heart the heaviest
anti-aircraft: barrage for many
months during . the- fourth , and
longest alert this week after a
small .force of enemy planes
crossed the coast and headed for
the capital. Several persons are
believed to have been buried be
neath the debris of four houses
demolished in a- residential dis
trict by direct hits.
One bomb fell in the grounds
of a convent, causing no casual
ties or damage.
