Allied Bombers

SEOUL, July 11 (A.A.P.) . —
Nearly 900 Allied planes, includ
ing R.A.A.F. fighters, today struck
at a massive Communist build-up
at the North Korean capital of
Pyongyang in the biggest raid of
the Korean War, United Press re
ported.
The United Nations air
forces flew more than
1850 sorties against the
Pyongyang targets and
the Sarhvon - Hwangju
supply route. .
The planes struck in
wave after wave through
out the day.
Twelve enemy M.I.G.-15
jets tried 4a -beat off the
raiders, but they were
chased from the sky by
more than, 100 F-86 Ame
rican Sabre jets and
R.AA.F. Meteor jets fly
ing protective cover.
The enemy planes fled
when one was damaged.
The attack, which
eclipsed recent raids on
Communist power dams
in North Korea, began
at 10 a.m. (local time)
when about 400 Allied
planes swarmed over
Pyongyang and sent
bombs, napalm, rockets
and machine-gun bul
lets crashing into enemy
supply centres.
A second wave of 250
United Nations planes
roared in- cascading their
bombs into the flaming
rubber and ammunition
factories, arsenals, repair
shops and military head
quarters of both the
North Koreans and Chin
ese.
By late afternoon a
third wave of 218 planes
hit the flaming targets —
already reduced to
rubbles in previous raids.
