MACARTHUR'S
CONTROL
Clash With F.E.C.
is Serious
NEW YORK. Apr. 10 (A.A.P.).
"For better or worse, the Mac-
Arthur era in Japan has virtu
ally ended." '
This Is asserted by the corre-
spondent of the New York
"Past" in Tokio. "MacArthur's
attitude -to the Far East Coun
cil, " he says, "indicates that he
is going to struggle to retain his
previously unchallenged power,
but it is hard to see how he is
going to win. F.E.C. members
have demonstrated that they will
not accept the rubber stamp role
to which they- were assigned by
MacArthur's letter on Friday,
which rejected the majority of
their requests for information,
His attitude means that the
major problems of the occupation
will be brought into the open and
publicly argued.
"The " British and Russian
members have demonstrated thac
they are not colng to be sadsfled
with ambiguities: on the c(#i-
trary. thev will insist on the cold
complete facts being given."
The correspondent of the "New
York Times" In Tokio says evi
dence is piling up that the F.E.C.
has thrown ' out the entire re
parations programme of Mr. Tru
man's special ambasspdoi,
