Queen Sits- Out
on Floodlit Lawn
The Queen sat out on the floodlit
lawns of Government House during the
Governor's Ball last night, listening to
band music. .
Under a starry sky, Her
Majesty sat with the
Duke of Edinburgh "while
I the Royal Marines' Band
from the Royal yacht
i Gothic and the R.A.A.F.
Central Band from
Laverton marched and
; Phyed on the lawns.
.The air was chilly and

Lady-in-waiting, Lady

the Queen. .
The upper facade of
Government - House was
floodlit.
The lights played upon
men in mess dress with
miniatures, and on the
lovely gowns of women,
many of whom wore tia
ras. As the bands played,
the Queen moved her
shoulders to keep time
with the music.
After the two band
masters saluted her,
she clapped her gloved
hands, but the guests
did not join the ap
plause until the Duke,
noticing that the Queen
was quietly clapping,
joined her with vigor
ous clapping.
The Queen returned to
Government House and
retired at 11.30 p.m. She
had been at the ball two
hours, staying until later
than usual, but on this
occasion she did not have
to travel home and face
cheering crowds.
