BAXTER IN
A FURY
Rough Work on
Announcer
A penalty fall awarded against
La Verne Baxter when he re
fused to obey the referee cost
him the match after seven rounds
of wrestling against Dutch Hefner
at West Melbourne Stadium last
night.
Baxter was up to1 his unpleas-
antries even before the bout
started. He caused some conster
nation when he showed his' re
sentment to an announcement re
garding nexL week's world title
bout between Szabo and Hefner,
by attacking the announcer and
throwing him from the ring.
After ft rough session Baxter se
cured the flrst (nil in the fourth
round, when he lifted Hefner high
above his head and crashed him
heavily Tor a body press.
In the ilfth round Baxter broke
all of the few remaining rules of
the game, and Hefner gave him good
measure with flailing fists and
flashing hendlocks, until Baxter was
completely dazed and an easy, vic
tim to a crotch hold and press.
The referee, Bonny Mulr., and both
wrestlera were engnged In the melee
which resulted lu the penalty fall
going Hefner's way In the seventh
round. The thret men overbalanced
Into the press seats, with Mulr In
the underneath position.
Baxter was flrst back into the ring
and, Btandlng Just Inside the ropes,
threw heavy punches at Hefner as he
attempted to re-enter.
Mulr was lying dazed on the floor
for some seconds, but eventually
entered the ring to crown Hefner
the winner.
