MORE SHIPS
Toll of British
Submarines
LONDON, July 5 (A.A.P.).
British submarines during re-
cent patrols in Far Eastern
waters sank nine supply ships
and damaged two.
A large supply ship under escort
moving south from Port Blair, in
the Andamans, was attacked, but
apparently undamaged made off.
It was pursued for 36 hours before
It was sunk by a torpedo.
Another submarine pursued a
medium-sized supply ship for over
30 hours before sinking it by tor-
pedo at the entrance of Phuket
harbor, in Slam. Another me-
dium-sized supply ship was sunk.
It was in an escorted convoy in-
tercepted south of Penang,
Submarines also successfully
bombarded enemy, shore installa-
tions on the northern coast of Su-
matra from a position within 25
yards of the main breakwater.
During this action a goods train
was almost completely destroyed.
Considerable damage was also
done to military objectives on Ross
Island, 'in the Adamans.
