Revival of Racing
Although country racing is still
at a low ebb, there is a growing
revival, and the . Racecourses
Licences Board has approved of
123 meetings for the current rac
ing year, compared with 75 last
year. The new allotments, with

The V.R.C. committee yesterday
renewed a licence to A. Garton, a
well-known trainer, who has served
in the present and the previous
world war and has now been dis
charged from the army. Included in
the string under the care of this
trainer is the last Melbourne Cup
winner. Dark Felt.
The committee gave an A jockey's
licence to S." D. Haag, who is on
leave from army service In New
Guinea. W. C. Warko, Jockey, was
given permission to ride in Jumping
events. F. Rebecca, attached to the
stable of P. Burke, was granted an
apprentice's permit to. ride': In races.
And J. Monaghan received an. owner-'
trainer permit -
Barrier Positions to
be Published
Following a communication irom
the Prime Minister's department
concerning the drawing of barrier
fioaltions for acceptors at race meet-
ngs, in which the Government left
the question to the discretion of the
clubs, the V.R.C. committee yester
day decided to revert to the former
practice of allocating such positions
at the time ol acceptance, which
has been generally adopted as 1
p.m. on the Wednesday prior to the
scheduled day of racing.
No doubt all metropolitan and
provincial clubs will follow the lead,
of the controlling body.
At Caulfield to-day the V.A.T.C.
has decided that prior to the run
ning of each race barrier positions
will be broadcast.
For the second day of Its meeting'
acceptances will be finalised on
Wednesday next, and barrier posi
tions will be drawn immediately fol
lowing the final forfeits.
Melbourne Cup Worth
£7700
It was agreed- by the V.R.C. com
mittee yesterday that the pro
gramme for the October and Spring
meetings at Flemlngton should be
similar to the schedule of last year.
The Melbourne Cup will be worth
£7500, with £200 in war bonds, to
the winning owner.
