Assassination

LONDON.t Aug. 9 (A.A.P.).
Accoraing to a report from me
Associated Press corespondent on
the British front in France, a
newly captured German intelli-
gence officer said that Himmler,
the Gestapo chief and com
mander in chief on the home
front, had been assassinated and
Goering wounded in a new out
break against the Nazi heirachy.
The correspondent added that
nine other captives, all Austrlans,
corroborated the statement that,
Himmler had been assassinated.
' The British first heard of the
alleged assassination from the
German intelligence officer, who i
after capture was segregated from
.-the Austrians.
The correspondent says: — "I
.qskod the- officer. 'I suppose
Himmler is stronger than Hitler
these days ?' He replied, 'No,
Himmler has been assassinated. I
heard the news at my head quar
ters on Sunday. All our officers
were talking about it.' "
The reports have not been con
firmed from any other source.
