at Sandringham was held yesterday oil

(Brighton Rifles), witii color party and
band; tlie Sandringham Battery, 18th
Heavy Brigade. R.A.A., and band; San
dringliam Co., Navy League, sea cadets,
with color party, voluntary aid detach
ment (Sandringliam section) nnd mem
bers oi tlie Sandringliam R.S.S.I.L.A,
marched to tlie ground, Licutcnnnl-
Coloncy J. G. T. Hanby being In com
mand of the parade. Tho service was
presided over by Rev. E. W. Norman
(Hampton Holy Trinity). The mayor
(Cr. J. T. Barnes) formally opened the
proceedings.
The address was delivered lrv t.r
C. Wilson, M.A. (Sandringham Presby-
tcrlnn), who said the older gene
ration remembered, nnd he hoped to
see more or the younger generation at
future similar services. "We want to
loll them," said the speaker, "things that
ive want them to know — how lads from
public schools, universities, shops, fac
tories and farms volunteered, and what a
march of the nations there was, of tlie
sacrilico made by a million in the Em
pire and of the 20,000,000 broken hearts
nnd lives. Tilings had to be told them
lest they became careless and not lcnoiv
the dangers of ivar." Many would al
ways remember tho shout that went up
tvhen the armistice was signed eighteen
years ago, but in France tlie men stood
to attention, and there was an awful
silence on the battle fickk. We
did not have peace to-day — only an ar-
mLstice. Wo had fear instead of faith,
brotherhood and equity. Britain was
not to blame— she had the peace mind.
Wo had lo fight materialistic Com
munism, seeking to spoil, what we most
desired. Tho solution to the secret of
world peace was the Now Testament.
The world wanted the universal peace
promised by Jesus Christ, and il was
up lo us to help It on.
The Dead March by massed bands,
Mozart's Glorin, by the Sandringham
Choral Society, under Mr. Illlngivorth's
baton; The Last Post, and Reveille were
features of the service, at the conclusion
of which Major John McPher.son, M.D.,
president l.f the Snnilrh,nh.,n,
R.S.S.I.L.A., formally thanked all who
assisted at the service.
A collection was taken for tho local
distressed diggers' fund. Licutenaant-
Coloncl Hanby look tlie salute at the
inarch past the Cenotaph In Walthain-
street after the service.
