HANCOCK TRAINS WELL
WITH TIGERS
Utility player, Peter Hancock, a surprise omission from
the Hawthorn list, trained well with Richmond last night,
and seems sure to seek a clearance, if he is added to the
Tigers' list.
Havel Rowe and Kevin Coppock, both recovered from
leg injuries, ran well.
Ivan Le Griffon, who has
been training well with the
Saints, impressed when he
ran at Richmond last night,
and is not likely to be
cleared to St. Kilda.
Mentone player Ian Mec-
kiff, who has been playing
cricket, had his first run.
Brian Coulls has been
given permission to train
with St. Kilda.
Reg Fisher, from Univer
sity Blacks, wants a clear
ance' to North Melbourne,
and Jack McGuiness, left
off the list, seems likely to
go to Box Hill.
MELBOURNE
Tasmanian follower Peter
Marquis, considered a cer
tainty for the side in the
opening match, was treated
for a leg injury at the rooms
last night.
He hopes to be fit for
Saturday.
Keith Carroll had a
light run to test a leg in
jury, but will be out for at
least two weeks. He will
probably be added to the
list when fit.
Outstanding last night
were Noel McMahen, Geoff
McGlvern, Don Williams,
Les Wallace and -Noel
Clarke. Coach Norm Smith
kept several players at kick
ing practice until dark.
FOOTSCRAY
Jack Collins and Don
Rose, who are working at
Maryborough, missed train
ing last night, but will be
available on Saturday.
Peter McPhee, who Is on
the list "to be considered
when available," had his
first run for some weeks, and
was impressive. John Kerr
and Alan Warren will be
available for Saturday.
Jack Nuttall, half-back
from Sunshine, ran well last
night, and will be available;
Alby Linton, rover and
wlngman, will be cleared to
Williamstown.
ST II. MELBOURNE
South Melbourne "recruit
Ron Taylor, who has impres
sed in practice matches, has
a badly bruised thigh, and
will be idle for at least two
weeks.
All other players, ex
cept Jim Taylor and Don
Scott, are fit, and had a
hard work-out last night
under Laurie Nash, who
claims his team will be the
fittest in the opening
matches.
Bill Gunn, Ron Clegg and
Mick Sibun were among the
best to train. Jack Graham,
who played two years ago,
visited the rooms.
ST. KILDA
Rover Jack Hartigan was
treated for an injured thigh
at St. Kilda last night, and
will probably miss the first
match. Promising recruit
Ron Shields will miss the
game with an Injured ankle.
Nev Linney has recovered
from an -injured thigh, and
is expected to he In the team
on Saturday. . Regular Jack
McDonald and recruit Har-
old_Davles are over leg in
juries and will be available.

Ron Walsh, promoted
from the seconds, will not
be available to play on
Saturday. He has an in

seconds than Join another
club.

George Ferry, who made
the list but. Is being sought
by Camberwell and Bruns
wick, has not revealed his
plans.
Ron Rhodes, from the sec
onds, had an X-ray of an In
jured hand yesterday, and has
bruised fingers.
Rover John Mills has re
covered from a bruised knee
and trained hard. John Brown,
Cardlnia half-back, had his
first run.

one-match, permit If required

on clearances.

after ankle Injuries, and
trained weU at Hawthorn last
night.
Vlo. McKlnnon, who was
dropped from the list after 47
League games, will play with
Trafalgar, but will continue to
train with Hawthorn.
He needed three more games
to qualify for the League pro
vident fund.
Alan Le Nepvue, who has
been included on the St. Kilda
list, has not yet applied for a
clearance.

have all recovered from injur
ies and trained last night.
Dick Baxter, . 17-year-old re-,

Fltzroy half-back, Bob
Roberts, will see a specialist to
day for another examination of
an Injured knee. He has
cartilage trouble, and will
probably need an operation.

Impressed officials in his first
run last night.
Tom Magee, Keith Carroll,
Don Furness and Jack Gerva-
sonl are all rmfc'lng well.
GEELONG
Jim Norman and Noel Rayson
are recovering from Injuries
and should be fit for the sec
ond match against Footscray
on May 2.
Camperdown recruit Bruce
Murray may also be fit for the
same game. Geelong had the
hardest run for the season last
night, and all other players re
ported fit.
John Hyde, Bob Davis, Geoff
Williams and Nell Trezlse were
outstanding.
