Thirsty Sheep
Die at Abattoirs
One sheep was found dead and five
others were unable to get up and were
apparently dying in two exposed pens
at South Melbourne abattoirs, Lorimer-
street, yesterday.
About 80 sheep were in'
the two pens.
A reporter from . "The
Age" visited the abattoirs
after Mr. N. Paton, of.
Malvern, called to report
cruelty there.
The sheep, which
were in pens measur
ing about 30 x 25 l'cct,
had no water. There
was no food in one pen .
and some hay in the
other. One sheep" was
hobbling on its front
knees.
Sheep in other pens
which were covered were
watered and in good con
dition.

They belonged to one
of the 12 wholesale but
chers who had their stock
killed at the abattoirs, he
said. .
