" Wild Guess" Won Free Home
With "just a wild guess" only 3/6
above the computed cost of the "Sun
shine" house, which has been on display
at the Exhibition Building, Miss Veeda
Garwood, 17 years, St. Kinnord-street; Es-
sendon, won the house.
Computed cost of building and fitting'
the house was £4818 14/6. Miss Gar
wood's estimate was £4618 18/-. She was
closely pressed, for the next best entry
was only 4/6 out— £4618 10/.
More than 65,000 entries were re
ceived.
The price was computed by Mr. R.
Boase on stage on Saturday night and
the winner was announced shortly be
fore the closing of the exhibition at 10
o'clock.
And what is Miss Garwood going to
do with her win? Just live In it with
her father and mother.
"Father, mother and I have been
sharing three rooms with another lady,"
she said last night. "We've been looking
for another place to live for three years.
Now I have this lovely house
"We are terribly, thrilled and Im
patient waiting for it to be erected at
Glen Waverley We will move In as soon
as we can."
At 17 Miss Garwood has no thoughts
of matrimony and the house will be
home for herself and her parents for
some time yet, she thinks.
Bulldozers are already clearing the
block at Glen Waverly and it is expected
the house will be ready for occupation
within a week.
In the picture above Miss Garwood
Is being congratulated by her parents.
