Freakish U.S. Storm
Causes Many Deaths
NEW YORK, November 4 (A.A.P.) — A freakish snow and
rain storm shrieked across the north-east of the United Slates yes
terday and claimed at least 20 lives. Winds of 60 m.p.li. were
recorded.

The aircraft carrier Oris-
kanv was torn loose from her
pier at the Quonset (Rhode
Island) naval air station, but
saved herself from going
aground by dropping two an
chors. She was undamaged.

over the city prompted a num
ber ' of persons to call news
papers and ask whether there
had been an atomic blast.
At Kent (Minnesota) a 16-
year-old farm : boy watched
helplessly as a speeding train
bore down on his family's oar
late this afternoon and killed
his mother, a brother and sis
ter, and critically injured his
father. <
The boy,. Le Claire Volbert,
told police he watched from
the window of .his farm home
as a speeding . mall train
hurtled into the car in which
his parents and brother and
sister were riding.
He said they were less than
a block from home when the
accident t-ook place.
. Police blamed the accident
oil lack of visibility . caused
by a snow storm. They said
the car's windows were
frosted over.
