PLANE CRASH
IN FOG
Perilous Work of
Rescue
LONDON, Dec. 30 (A.A.P.).
. With both ankles broken', the
pilot of a crashed R.A.F. plane
crawled across Ave miles of bog
and ravines to get help for two
members of the crew.
The aircraft crashed in a fog
on Friday on an 1800-feet hill in
Derbyshire. For .20 hours the
two members of the .crew lay in
jured and without food and water
until rescuers arrived after, a
perilous Journey.
One party of six rescuers with
a sleigh found themselves rolling
down the slopes of a gully. Un
able to stop, they let go the
sleigh, which shot off Into the
gloom and crashed down a 50-
feet ravine.
The three airmen have been
admitted to hospital.
On his return journey from
Moscow Mr. Byrnes, U.S. Secre
tary for State, took the Naples,
Casablanca, Azores and New
foundland route, avoiding the ad
verse weather across central Eu
rope.
