LABOR DEFENCE POLICY.
A Minister's Criticism.
Commenting yesterday on the delence
policy ot the Labor party, as outlined
by the leader of the party (Mr. Curtlni
at the Victorian Labor party conference,
the Minister of External Affairs (Sir G.
Pearce) said it offered no constructive
proposals and did not glvo nny specific
details of objectives. Mr. Curtin had
referred to promoting self-sufficiency In
Industry to provide materials and sup
plies for defence. The Lyons Govern
ment had been following that course
with success. ThaL was shown by the
increase In the number of factories nnd
their production. One of (he Govern
ment s defence achievements had been
the development of munition factories
»o that they not only produced Australian
requirements, but enabled large supplies
to be pxnorlerl lo New Zealand
