LIVE STOCK SALES.
SHEEP AND LAMBS;
. GENERAL SUPPLY ADEQUATE,.
LOGAL DEMAND WEAKER.
EXPORT LAMBS EASIER TREND.
Tho immediate needs of local trade
buyers were adequately satisfied with rat
sheep and lambs yesterdqy, though prime
wethers were comparatively scarce, being
within town and country requirements.
Export competition wai somewhat weaker
for standard-quality lambs, frequently
disclosing an easier trend from recent
average values.
Tho offering consisted of 16,000 fat
sheep, 16,000 fat lambs and 5000 store
sheep. For' Thursday, 14,500 fat sheep
and 10,000 fat lambs are entered.
Tlie moderate selection of attractive
quality crossbrcds. including a small
share of prime two-tootli wethers, was
In nctlvo request at former satisfactory
quotations. Prlmo merino wethers were
sparsely represented, and realised rela
tively high figures. There was, how
ever, a fully adequate offering of south
ern district merino wethers, Including
several late-shorn consignments. In this
section tho demand was unsteady with
slight fluctuations In favor of buyers.
Various classes of good to primo fat
owes met a ready clearance at about
late rates. Secondary market trade
grades, comprising a wide variety ot
aged fat owes, met with Irregular com
petition, nnd in this division ruling prices
were generally from 6d. to 1/ a head
lower.
The average offering of export-quality
consignments of fat lambs compared fa
vorably with recent supply, but special
drafts of heavy weights, siutabie for
choice hogget mutton, were moderately
represented. Although consistent ex
port competition was sustained, a
weaker trend was evident in the gene
ral tone of tlie market, and as sales
proceeded prices frequently fluctuated
from about late rates to fully 6dL a
head lower, the easier trend being most
noticeable in good and prime consign
ments, lighter grades being freely pur
chased by local graziers.
Tho yarding of store sheep consisted
principally of secondary descriptions.
Attractive drafts of breeding ewes and
good-condltloncd crossbred wcaners, how
ever, met with spirited request at fully
late rates.
